This can be a bit of a hot potato and just because an electrical item is small and easy to transport does not mean it is easy for the owner to dispose of it themselves. Urban Waste are licensed by the Environment Agency to remove all WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) items and we don’t charge anything extra for this service – as long as the item is not hazardous, we can remove it simply and efficiently for you and in line with regulations.
Urban Waste can remove any WEEE items you have, from a whole kitchen’s worth of white goods down to an old computer or television. All electrical goods were not created equal – depending on what they contain, they may need specialist disposal and this is where we come in. As experts in such removals, we know what needs to be separated out because of components which may be valuable because they contain elements which are in short supply and can thus be beneficial to the planet to save more mining or other incursions. In other cases, the components may be potentially hazardous and are subject to strict legislation. These include uninterruptible power supplies; lead-acid batteries; cathode ray tubes (older televisions, computer monitors); fluorescent tubes; backlights to laptop screens; thin-film transistors and electrical/electronic equipment containing polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). Other items such as fridges and freezers also need specialist disposal due to various components which can be hazardous. The area of WEEE is a difficult one that needs an expert and Urban Waste are certainly that.
